Anonymous: Hey there! Recently I've been trying to gain the confidence to finally cosplay. It was going well and I was feeling pretty good, but then I discovered cgl through a friend and well... I'm starting to lose some of that confidence. I know I shouldn't let a place like that make me feel like I shouldn't even try, but I must say that it's made me feel really down on myself.

Aw, I really wish I had more concrete advice to give… Try to stay away from websites like that, and remember why you’re cosplaying.  You’re doing it for fun!  To see yourself in your favourite character!  It’s a really rewarding experience, so focus on the positive and ignore the haters.  They’re petty and melodramatic, and have absolutely no right to say the things they do.  Get all dressed up and look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself how good you look over and over.  Meet friends who also cosplay and support each other.

Unfortunately, there are negative parts of the cosplay community, but they’re overshadowed by all of the amazing, supportive, fun parts!  Just be careful where you look online, and keep your focus on the fun.

I’m probably not the best person to ask about this, since I’m very self-conscious, but I think you should give it a try anyway!  You’ll have a ton of fun!

robertembley: Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'd offer my services as a photographer, but Canada is a little far away from the UK; plus I've only really done wildlife and landscape photography up till now, so I'm not sure I'd be any good at it. Anyway, your cosplays are awesome! and good luck for all your future projects!

Aw, thank you!  Best of luck with your photography endeavours (ノ^∇^)

robertembley: Hey, I was wondering if you use the same photographer for all your cosplay shoots? If so, do they have a website with their portfolio? Thanks in advance! :)

No, I shoot with several different photographers and love working with new ones, as well!  I link to all of their pages/websites in my posts (Both on Tumblr and Facebook), so you can always check out their work there!
